Piggyback Voc.jpg (6541 bytes)

Application: Background sound effects

The "Vocalite" is velcroed to a regular shelf speaker and
placed behind the foliage.
The amplifier in the "Vocalite"
drives the speaker producing
insect noise masking the
mechanical noises made by
the robotic spider.

A stable of "Vocalites" are kept to
add background sounds to changing exhibits when needed.

Due to the size and weight, the units
can be stored on strips of Velcro.

With a setup such as this a
sound effect can be placed in
the gallery within fifteen minutes
of when it is requested.

Application: Sound Effects

These natural History Habitats were greatly enhanced by the natural
sounds that go with each of them.
All the effects players are placed
on a small shelf in a closet.  And
because of the ease of re-recording
the units can be tried and changed
as needed.

Application:  Push to Play

The "Vocalite System" can be mounted anywhere.  Since it runs on 5 volts the small wire can be hidden easily. Or the whole system  run on a battery.

In this exhibit  "The Battle of Midway."  The "Vocalite System" is mounted on a stanchion that is screwed to the floor.

The quality sound added to the impact
of the two dimensional exhibit.

Application: Push to play

The audio that plays in this sound
closet exhibit was key to its success.
The story was printed on the wall in  modern english, while the audio was telling the story in the Gullah dialect.

The button is the only part of the equipment that is seen.  The "Vocalite"
is hidden behind the wall.

Application: Triggered Play

The remarkable size and compactness
of the "Vocalite" is great when there
is not much room.

telebooth.jpg (6866 bytes)

The "Vocalite" was placed inside this booth, inside the pay telephone itself.
It plays short bits of six songs which
have telephone themes.

The "Vocalite" is triggered to play by
lifting the handset.

loom.jpg (6570 bytes)

Application:  Sound effect triggered by motion.

The sights and sound of a loom
room in a mill are demonstrated
here.  The audio effects begin when
the visitor approaches the door.   A common infra red beam switch with
a reflector placed in an inconspicuous place triggers the player to start.

Application:  Background sound in an endless loop.

This full size slave cabin has been enhanced by adding a work song as it was sung by the slaves returning from the field.

The "Vocalite" is connected to a
speaker both of which are sitting
on a shelf under the bottom edge
of the cabin.

dizzy1.jpg (5562 bytes)

Application: Continuous background music

These two young people are looking
at a large hologram of Dizzy Gilespy.
The image is enhanced by listening to
his music.  A audio loop of one of his more famous songs is playing out of
the step they each have their foot on.
As you can see, in the open step to
the right, although the effect is great, with the "Vocalite" it was very simple
to produce.

Application: Press to play interpretation

In this plantation kitchen there was no electricity so the use of a battery was necessary.

VocBrat13.JPG (176302 bytes)

On weekends there is a living
historian in this setting
explaining early American
methods of cooking.   Those
same interpreters were used
to record the "Vocalite"
message. They even recorded it
right in the cabin.

VocBrat11.JPG (141553 bytes)

Application: Press for Interpretation

These Plantation Rooms needed interpretation but since the house was
itself an artifact punching holes for
wires was not practical.   "Vocalite
Systems" with batteries were used.
The battery life under normal use was
four months.

VocBrat12.JPG (137966 bytes)

Application: Press to play

The battery powered "Vocalite System" has a built-in stand-by mode which conserves the battery when the unit is
not in use.  It is, however ready when ever the button is pressed for instant service.

Although we have standard cabinets in which we can place "Vocalite Systems,"
we will be glad to work with you to provide what ever enclosure you may need.

In this installation a normal wasp sound
was run through a sound effects
machine where the sound was
broadened and deepened.
It gave the creature an
interactive element.

Robotic creatures usually make
noise.  Any sound effect that helps mask
those mechanical sounds is helpful.
